The Nigard Glacier

The Nigard glacier, one arm of the large and famous Jostedal glacier, is one of the most visited and easily accessible glaciers in southern Norway.

Several buses run from Bergen every day. Boats with room for 24 passengers run continuously between the ice and the bus stop, and take you directly to the tongue of the glacier. The low altitude of the Nigard, extending as far down as 330 metres above sea level, makes it one of the most accessible glaciers in Norway.

There has been commercial hiking on the ice for more than 20 years, and experienced guides are on stand-by ready to take you for a walkabout. There are different walks to choose from, ranging from fairly easy ones allowing children of age 6 and up, to more challenging ones taking several days. Equipment is provided and no prior experience is necessary, the guides only ask that you bring warm clothes, sun protection and lunch.
