The Folgefonna Glacier

The Folgefonna offers skiing in the summer. With an extensive array of lifts and slopes it is a popular spot only a few hours from Bergen by bus. Equipment for both telemark, slalom and snowboarding can be rented at the resort. Lifts run from early in the morning till late at night.

Walking on ice

The first part of the season, from the beginning of May until the end of June, offers great possibilities for cross country skiing around the glacier. Tracks can be prepared on request. During the latter half of the season, from July until October, hiking on the glacier is more popular. Experienced guides stake out memorable treks for all ages and levels of physical stamina. There are two Blue Ice daytrips daily, the standard one starting at 1030 am and lasting 5 to 6 hours, and a shorter and easy one starting at 11 am and lasting 4 to 5 hours.  Children as young as 7 years can take part, and no prior experience is required. Equipment is supplied by the guiding company. The Fonnabu to Holmaskjer trip, crossing the glacier, is a more demanding and challenging trek. All trips offer great views to the nearby fjords and surrounding mountains as well as the unique experience of traversing a desert of ice.
