The Briksdal Glacier

The Briksdal Glacier, one of the three outlets of the famous Jostedal Glacier, the largest in Europe, is easily accessible from Stryn. The glacier rises from 346m above sea level at its lowest to 1950m a.s.l. at its highest. At its thickest part the ice is 400m deep.

When visiting the glacier you have several options. You can simply take in the spectacular view from one of the nearby viewpoints or you can explore its front from one of the safari boats on the lake Briksdalsvatnet. The lake is situated at the end point of the glacier and a ride on one of the dinghies will take you within touching distance of the tongue of the glacier. The other obvious and popular option is to strap on rugged and warm boots and step out on the glacier itself, of course always with a guide. One of the biggest attractions in the area, the Briksdalen glacier welcomes more than 300.000 visitors every year.
