Officially
opened by the king and queen in 1998, the Atlantic Sea Park is an exciting
place to visit. Well integrated into the weather beaten shore a few kilometres
outside Ålesund, the building is an architectural gem. In the surrounding area there
are several hiking trails, fishing grounds, spots for swimming and even
possibilities for scuba diving.
Through
several installations the park sheds light on aquatic wildlife from the inner
fjords to the open sea. There are more
than twenty aquariums all showcasing different aquatic environments, life forms
and sea depths. In the activity pools you can touch different animals and fish,
and catch crabs with a line and bait. The highlight of any visit is the feeding
of the penguins and fish. The park also gives daily diving shows aimed at
children of all ages with singing and other ways of participating. There are
also frequent photo and art exhibitions in the complex. The Atlantic Sea Park
makes for a perfect day trip from Ålesund at any time of year in every type of
weather.
