The Pulpit Rock is perhaps the most dramatic and famous rock formation in Norway.
As the name suggests it is in the shape of a pulpit with the top plateau measuring 25x25 metres. The drop is 604 metres (1982 feet) to the fjord below. The path leading up to it is good, albeit steep in some parts, and provides beautiful scenery along the way. The hike takes 1-3 hours, depending on your experience as a hiker.
Preikestolen Hostel provides accommodation at the beginning of the trail leading to the Pulpit Rock. With its traditional grass roof, numerous possibilities for fishing and trekking and amazing views to the fjord it is a great place to start your exploration of the unique landscape that is the Norwegian Fjords.
The Pulpit Rock is also a popular and legal point for BASE jumping.
Getting there
From late June to early September, you can take a bus from Stavanger to the Preikestol Hostel.
