The Norwegian Glacier Museum

The Norwegian Glacier Museum is based in Fjærland, one and a half hours from Førde. The result of a collaboration between several Norwegian research institutions, the centre aims to gather and disseminate knowledge about the glaciers and their relation to climate changes. The museum has won several awards for its interactive exhibits. Here you can learn about snow and glaciers, see a panoramic film about the Jostedal Glacier and perform your own experiments with thousand year old blocks of ice. The exhibition also focuses on the interchangeable relation between glaciers and the climate, running through history from the big bang and up until our near future.

The museum has won several architectural awards, and from the roof of building there are excellent views to the nearby glacier. Guided walks on the ice can also be arranged from here.
